Come with us on an unforgettable journey to India!
Santa Clara University's Center for Science, Technology, and Society proudly announces the Global Social Benefit Institute (GSBI) Executive Immersion Trip 2015: Journey to India.
Our GSBI Executive Immersion Trips offer an in-depth experience in communities at the forefront of social innovation, and a rare chance to interact with visionary entrepreneurs in building solutions to our world's most pressing problems.
GSBI, the Center's flagship program, helps social entrepreneurs build sustainable, scalable enterprises that directly impact poor communities around the world. After more than a decade of leadership in the field of social entrepreneurship, our global network is 202 enterprises strong and growing.
Our March 2015 itinerary highlights social enterprises operating in India. The trip will be intense and enlightening, exposing participants to some of the challenges experienced in remote rural and urban communities of the developing world.
Inspirational visits to promising and growing social enterprises form the core of the trip. Time for group discussion and individual reflection are integral to the journey. Participants will be afforded realistic close-up exposure to the ways technology and innovation can transform lives and promotes sustainable economic development in India.
Planned as an inspiring 9-day experience in India, guests will have the opportunity to spend quality time with a varied group of social entrepreneurs who are bettering lives through job creation, financial inclusion, off-grid power, and health. Interactive visits with social entrepreneurs will allow participants to develop a deeply personal understanding of the impact of these organizations. Free time will be scheduled for cultural excursions and informal educational opportunities. We encourage participants to consider extending their stays in India to encounter the rich cultural and biodiversity of this varied and vast region.
There are 50 Indian social entrepreneurs who have participated in a GSBI program. Planned visits currently include (subject to change):
Anudip Foundation and iMerit | Kolkata
Anudip Foundation is a social enterprise designed to empower marginalized youth and women to use IT skills to secure livelihoods in India's booming new economy.
Onergy | Kolkata
ONergy is a renewable energy venture providing lighting, cooking and electrification solutions to rural India. ONergy focuses on solving the last mile distribution problems.
Industree Crafts | Bangalore
Industree is a hybrid social enterprise based in Bangalore supporting livelihoods of rural producers and agricultural workers all over the country. They produce contemporary items using raw materials and traditional craft techniques.
Kinara Capital | Bangalore
Kinara is a social business that provides loans in the range of $2,000 to $20,000 to micro and small enterprises, filling the gap between microfinance and commercial capital with the aim to generate new jobs, improve incomes, and create sustainable businesses.
Promethean Power Systems | Mumbai
Promethean has developed a rapid-cooling milk chiller sold to diary processors. Dairy farmers across India lose money every day because their milk can't be collected in time and therefore spoils. Promethean's system preserves milk at the village level, which reduces spoilage and transportation costs for processors, leading to increased farmer incomes.
Ziqitza | Mumbai
Ziqitza is an organization that is pioneering ambulance services in India, where reliable ambulance or emergency medical response services are lacking. The primary objective is rolling out a nationwide network of ambulance services accessible to anyone, anytime, and anywhere.
A contribution of $10,000 to $12,000 covers the costs of the trip and supports the Center's mission. Included are executive-level accommodations for each night and most meals in-country. International air travel is not included. Market value costs will be calculated, with the balance fully tax-deductible.
Deposit Due ($5,000): September 15, 2014
Balance Due ($5,000-$7,000): January 31, 2015
