This is a competitive fellowship in action research, and your letter is essential for us to be able to evaluate this student as a candidate. We will evaluate each applicant individually, but will also consider the overall composition of the team, since we will send them in pairs to international field placements for about 7 weeks. Your letter of recommendation should help the review committee evaluate the candidate's academic strength, community service experience, and suitability to live and work in the developing world for a summer. What to include in your letter of recommendation:
1. Please begin the letter by telling us how long, and in what capacity, have you known the applicant.
2. Please assess the candidate's suitability for living and working in the developing world for a summer placement.
3. Please assess the candidate's academic skills and preparation for undertaking a supervised research project as a senior. Did the candidate meet with you to discuss the possibility of you supervising his or her senior year research? Would you be willing to supervise him or her in a senior research project? Why or why not?
