Text to Send to the Faculty Member Who Will Help Supervise Your Research
Dear [insert Faculty Title and Name]:
You have been asked to write a faculty letter of recommendation for the Global Social Benefit Fellowship on behalf of [insert student name], a Santa Clara University student. This is a competitive fellowship in action research, and your letter is essential for us to be able to evaluate this student as a candidate. Please begin by reviewing the requirements of the fellowship. We will evaluate each applicant individually, but will also consider the overall composition of the team, since we will send them in pairs to international field placements for about 7 weeks. Your honest answers will be greatly appreciated. Your letter of recommendation should help the review committee evaluate the candidate's academic strength, community service experience, and suitability to live and work in the developing world for a summer. Your frank assessment of this student's suitability for this fellowship is most appreciated.
What to include in your letter of recommendation:
1. Please begin the letter by telling us how long, and in what capacity, have you known the applicant.
2. Please assess the candidate's suitability for living and working in the developing world for a summer placement.
3. Please assess the candidate's academic skills and preparation for undertaking a supervised research project as a senior. Did the candidate meet with you to discuss the possibility of you supervising his or her senior year research? Would you be willing to supervise him or her in a senior research project? Why or why not?
How to submit your letter of recommendation:
Letters should be submitted as an attachment to this unique email address: [insert unique email address we sent you]. Please name the document: ApplicantSurname_YourSurname. A letter on electronic letterhead is preferred, but a simple document would also suffice. If you have questions, please contact the Center's Director of Education and Research, Keith Warner OFM at kwarner@scu.edu.
