From clothing made from newspapers, to a campus-wide teach-in, to voluntary check-ups of offices and residences for optimum sustainability, Santa Clara University is ramping up its efforts to permeate the campus with a conscience of sustainability, energy efficiency, and environmental justice.

Santa Clara University and dozens of others interested in interfaith issues have formed a new organization to represent the dozens of religions and sects that comprise the spiritual side of Silicon Valley.

It's no surprise to SCU professor James Lai that the Asian population of Silicon Valley grew by nearly a third over the last ten years -- a stark shift from past trends of Asians flocking to cities, rather than suburbs. Census figures released last week quantified the shift locally: from 2000 to 2010, the Asian population of Santa Clara County grew to 571,000 -- an increase of 140,000.

About 50 vibrant, promising startups came to woo SCU students for internships in businesses ranging from Internet coupons, online wine reviews, lightweight solar panels, to retail intelligence-gathering.
