Catalano, Jason

Jason D. Catalano ’12 is serving as a Military Police Officer in the 2nd Cavalry Regiment in Vilseck, Germany. His main duty is assisting the Provost Marshall of the Regiment in: Anti-terrorism operations, Force Protection, Physical Security, Detention Facility operations, and discipline of the unit. Other duties include Conducting joint Police patrols with the German Polizei, Officer Professional Development, and training in Police and Soldier tasks and drills. He is currently deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom as an Officer in Charge of a bomb dog detection unit.

Ropers Majeski Kohn & Bentley, P.C. has added Rachael E. Brown '09, J.D. '12 as an associate in its San Jose office. She graduated cum laude from Santa Clara University and also received a High Tech Law Certificate in Intellectual Property Law. During her time in law school, Brown served as assistant director of the Internal Moot Court program; helped revitalize Equality SCU, a group dedicated to advocating and advancing LGBT issues; served on the board of the Women and Law group, helping to promote the advancement of women in the legal field; and she also worked as a law clerk at RMKB. 

Her practice area includes a broad range of civil litigation, including business and intellectual property matters. She focuses her practice on claims of copyright and trademark infringement, trade secret litigation, disputes arising from contract, and unfair competition. She is currently working on extending her experience in the areas of estate planning and employment litigation.

Gabi Solis ’13 attended the American Bach Solists Acadamy in San Francisco this past summer where she was a soloist in Bach's Mass in B Minor and Biber's Missa Salisburgensis. A late-night call this fall from the renowned music director Jeffrey Thomas included an invitation to perform with the professionals performing Handel's Messiah at Grace Cathedral Church in San Francisco and at the Mondavi Center at UC Davis in December 2013.

Nate May ’13 was awarded the American Institute of Chemists Foundation Award in recognition of a record of leadership, ability, character and scholastic achievement. He was also  welcomed into Sigma Xi, the national scientific research society.

May will begin graduate work toward a Ph.D. in applied chemistry at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor this fall.

Keppeler-Hurley, Tabitha

Tabitha Kappeler-Hurley ’05 is the new communications coordinator for Palo Alto Unified School District . The former public information officer of the Santa Clara Unified School District had been an English teacher and vice principal at Santa Clara's Wilcox High School before moving into the district's public information role in 2004, where she also directed career-technical education and a program to promote female participation in math and science.

Kappeler-Hurley, who grew up in the southern California agricultural town of Brawley, holds degrees from San Jose State University and earned a credential in educational administration from Santa Clara University.

SCU faculty and staff who attended include Terry Beers, Russ Morris, and former staff Lisa Taggart. Emily recently completed a graduate degree in history and is in SCU’s MATTC program. Rene received his MBA and works in finance. The newlyweds make their home in the Willow Glen neighborhood of San Jose.

Barr, Catie

The Redding, California, law firm of Barr and Mudford has announced the addition of Catie Barr '10, J.D. '13 to its roster of attorneys.

Third-generation north state born and raised, Ms. Barr is also a third-generation lawyer. Her grandfather, Everett Barr, was born in Mt. Shasta, served as a trial lawyer for many years and then as a Superior Court judge in Siskiyou County. Her father, Dugan Barr, born in Yreka, came to Redding and has been practicing Personal Injury Law since 1967.
 
While in law school, Ms. Barr worked in the Santa Clara County Public Defender’s office, volunteered with the Innocence Project, a volunteer organization that hears appeals of individuals who it appears may have been wrongly convicted of a crime, and she worked as clerk for one of Santa Clara County’s Superior Court judges.
