Residential Learning Communities

Eight RLCs

Alpha: ALPHA is Santa Clara University’s longest-running Residential Learning Community and was the first RLC to bring students in a single residence together with some of the University’s finest professors in an interconnected Core Curriculum.

Communitas: In Communitas, we treat lending a helping hand as an opportunity to grow as a person, not as a requirement that must be fulfilled. Our motto, “Local action with compassion,” serves as a springboard for the advancement of our members’ ideas, interests, and strengths. Communitas is constantly developing and evolving – come and make your mark!

Cyphi: Cyphi is a community of students, staff, and faculty who bring their passion for sustainability and the arts to Swig Hall, an 11-story building that offers an old-fashioned college lifestyle with lively interaction among all the residents.

da Vinci: The da Vinci Residential Learning Community celebrates Italian heritage and culture with a focus on science and engineering. Although the academic interests of our residents reflect those of the famous Leonardo, and many of our members major in science or engineering, others study the arts, humanities and business.

Loyola: The Loyola RLC is home to a diverse group of students who share an active interest in exploring issues of faith and justice. We focus on the intersection of scholarship, spirituality, solidarity, hospitality, and discernment.

Modern Perspectives: The Modern Perspectives RLC engages the historical, political, and economic questions key to the world of the 21st century. Our interest in social issues and world events focuses us on the possibilities for leadership both locally and globally, now and in the future.

Unity: The members of the Unity RLC seek a deeper understanding and appreciation of diversity as a catalyst for social and civic engagement. The theme of Unity is grounded in one of the University’s fundamental values: “We cherish our diverse community and the roots that must sustain it: shared values amidst diversity, close personal relationships, effective communication, respect for others, and an engaged concern for the common good of the campus, the local community, and the global society.”

Xavier: Xavier is an RLC for those who want to make a difference in the world, and who want to participate in the Jesuit tradition of the integration of faith and justice. Xavier provides its members with the opportunity to explore the implications of global solidarity, and investigate how we can contribute to making a more just world.
