Message from the AVP

Like many campus departments, much of our summer was spent on getting ready for the new academic year. Our summer focused on a few exciting projects including a survey regarding a possible retiree program, the on-going tasks related to the Online Recruitment System, the kick-off session of the New Manager Welcome Program, and the enhanced merit increase process.I want to thank the many people who provided HR with the necessary feedback.Your input ensures HR rolls out programs that are both relevant and responsive to your needs. The HR initiatives are broken down into three key goal areas:1) Business Process Improvements, 2) Technology Enhancements, and 3) Program Development.
HR will focus on improving existing process specifically with the exit process, fixed terms and the current performance management process. We have partnered with a department to pilot a new performance evaluation process and automated tool. Their feedback will be extremely helpful in determining what will be most effective for the campus community.
HR will continue to focus on technology this year.We hope that by automating several processes we can better meet your needs.Be on the lookout for electronic W-2's in January and an automated I-9 and performance management program later in the year. You already know about the Online Recruitment System project. HR along with Faculty Affairs, Affirmative Action, and the IT team has been working diligently on this project throughout the summer. The team thanks all who have contributed to the testing of the system and ask for your continued patience and flexibility as we make sure we have a system that meets the campus community needs. The training and go-live date for the new online system will be communicated as soon it is identified.
Your health and well-being is important to us and we have planned several activities designed to promote work-life balance.I encourage you to join us at these events.I also invite you to visit the new Wellness Room in HR where you can have a chair massage, sit and meditate or make it your personal lactating space ; either way, it is a stress-free zone for you.
A brand new program we are developing is one designed to address the needs of our retiree community.I extend a warm thank you to those who participated in the program needs assessment. We learned so much about what is important to you regarding retirement. This program is still in its design phase but we are encouraged by your support and input.
We are energized by the work ahead because we have strong partnerships with various campus departments and together we will achieve our 2013/2014 objectives.
