Procedures for Faculty
Faculty who would like their course(s) to be considered for inclusion in a Pathway should send a copy of the syllabus by email to the Pathway Facilitator(s) with an explanation of why the course is appropriate for the Pathway. The Pathway Facilitator(s), in consultation with the Pathways FCC as needed, will make recommendations regarding its inclusion.
Procedures for Students
Students will declare the Pathway through e-campus, usually by spring quarter of their second year.
Students will be able to save representative papers or other work for each Pathway course on-line. (All students currently enrolled in Core 2009, who entered in Fall of 2009 or 2010, will be using Camino. For students entering in Fall 2011, the e-portfolio will be Task Stream.)
After students have completed their Pathway courses and at least 100 units, they will write and post online a Pathway reflection essay responding to instructions provided in the Pathways Reflection Prompt. Pathway reflection papers must be submitted before the Petition to Graduate.
The reflection essay and the representative work from each Pathway course will be evaluated using the Pathway evaluation rubric. The rubric will be available to students as they write their reflection essays.
If the reflection essay does not receive a pass, the student will be given feedback and required to revise and resubmit the reflection essay.
Guidelines
No more than two courses in a student's Pathway may be taken in the same department.
For BUSINESS students and students in the COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES, two courses in any individual student's major department may contribute to the requirements for that student's Pathway, as long as the courses have been approved for the Pathway. For ENGINEERING students, only one course in the student's major department may contribute to the requirements for that student's Pathway, as long as the course has been approved for the Pathway.
A student's Pathway may contain no more than two courses in the Religion, Theology, & Culture sequence (RTC 1, 2, and 3).
Only one course in a Pathway may be a Foundations course (normally taken the first year).
Some courses will be appropriate for more than one Pathway, but students will complete only one Pathway.
Students may petition to have study abroad courses count toward a Pathway.
All students in the School of Engineering (including Transfer students) and Transfer students in the Arts & Sciences and Leavey School of Business who enter the University with 44 units or more will complete their Pathway with three courses. Engineering Pathway guidelines apply to all students completing their Pathway with three courses.
