Faculty Promotion and Tenure

In consultation with the Provost’s office, Faculty Development offers support and information for faculty pursuing promotion and tenure.

  • University guidelines and documents concerning tenure-track and non-tenure-track faculty promotions (Assistant Professor to Associate Professor, Associate Professor to Professor and Lecturer to Senior Lecturer) may be found on the Provost's web site.

  • Mid-Probationary Review and Junior Faculty Development Leaves
  • Faculty Development holds an annual information session on the rank and tenure process for new tenure-track faculty, in addition to regular spring workshops specifically for tenure-track faculty preparing petitions for tenure and/or promotion.  In 2011-2012 there will be workshops for lecturers seeking promotion to senior lecturer.  Contact Anne Riconosciuto for more information.
  • Tenure Clock Extension Policy

  • Aware that family responsibilities can impinge on the time and energy faculty have to devote to professional responsibilities, the University has a tenure clock extension policy that provides an automatic extension for faculty who experience birth or adoption of a child or death of a spouse, registered domestic partner, or child. In addition, a one-year extension of the probationary period may be granted for other circumstances that significantly impede progress toward tenure. See Section 3.4 of the Faculty Handbook and the Tenure Clock Extension Form
