Why do you want to serve as an International Ambassador at Santa Clara University?
I had an amazing experience while abroad, and I want to be able to help other students prepare and get excited about going abroad as well. I also had the opportunity to study in both Scotland and England, so I have a different perspective on two different programs, which I think would be valuable for students to have.
What were the deciding factors in choosing your study abroad program and/or location?
The fact that they spoke English, and also that I would be taking classes through a university--not just an American study abroad program.
I was able to continue to pursue my passion for playing soccer by playing on University of St Andrews football team. This was a defining moment in my abroad experience because it allowed me to compete against some of the best players all around the world, explore more of Scotland, and I also just met some amazing people through being on the team. It affected me personally because trying out for the university soccer team was very stressful and scary for me, but I forced myself out of my comfort zone and tried something new, and it turned out to be one of the best things I did and so I think I am a much more confident person now.
What advice would you give to prospective study abroad students?
Just to go in with an open mind and be willing to try everything and anything. Expect to feel a bit uncomfortable for the beginning, but it is all part of the process and it is absolutely worth it.
