International Ambassador

Why do you want to serve as an International Ambassador?
I'd like to serve as an International Ambassador at SCU because I really enjoyed my time abroad, but there were things I wish I had known before I left. I also have already been a sort of informal ambassador for students looking to study at Deusto, and I have really enjoyed being available to them to answer any of their questions and/or concerns while also telling them about my own experience.
Deciding factor for studying abroad?
The deciding factor for me was that I didn't want to be in an American program. I specifically wanted to do a direct exchange program, and since Deusto was the only option for that it was a pretty easy decision. Of course San Sebastian is also a beautiful city with a rich culture, and I hadn't spent a lot of time in the Basque country before.
Defining Moment Abroad?
I don't know that I had a particular defining moment while I was abroad, but rather there was a defining aspect of my experience abroad. At Deusto there were about 200 exchange students from all over the world, and we became very close. I made friends from several different countries including my roommates who were from Denmark and other friends from places such as Scotland, Sweden, Italy, France, Germany, and Chile, just to name a few. Meeting those people and having a sort of cultural exchange between the 200 of us was such an amazing experience and one that I don't think I will ever have again. It was an experience that broadened my world view in a very subtle but important way because it occurred through being in classes, eating meals, and even living with people from different countries, and even though we weren't always aware it was happening, we were all learning about each other's cultures as well as that of the Basque Country.
Advice to Prospective study abroad students?
The only advice I would give to a prospective study abroad student would be to never say no to any new experience. There is so much to learn and see that there really isn't any reason not to experience it all.
