Why do you want to serve as an International Ambassador?
I really enjoyed my experience abroad, and would love to be there to help other start that journey - to help them feel more comfortable and excited about their upcoming adventure.
Deciding factor for studying abroad?
I have always wanted to go to Scotland, partly due to my family's heritage, partially due to my desire to explore the beauty of Scotland's cities, towns and Highlands. There is so much culture and history to be seen throughout the UK. Edinburgh looked like a beautiful city (which it absolutely was) and was something very different than any living situation I have been in before coming from a small hometown.
Defining Moment Abroad?
During a trip into the Scottish Highlands, while driving up this crazy windy road along the coast, I fell in love with Scotland. One moment the skies were bright beautiful blue, and the next we were trapped in the midst of an absolute downpour. We rounded a corner and came upon this totally idyllic bright white sandy beach. The water was a beautiful neon turquoise under this wild storm, and the white powder sand was littered with tiny bright yellow shells. As I was running along the beach, immediately soaked, I realized I never wanted to leave Scotland. As cold and dark as it can be, the beauty and unpredictability of it is overwhelming. It is because of this wild beauty of the Highlands that I plan on returning to Scotland to work as a Civil Engineer.
Advice to Prospective study abroad students?
Have fun. You're only there for so long - live it up as much as you can. Don't waste a single moment, because it is over before you know it. It is your chance to live simply, to grow and learn and explore, so do as much of that as you can possibly fit in. Travel. Make plans so you have them, but don't be afraid to ignore them and just go with it. Live.
