Eric D. Carlson is the Director of the GSBI overseeing selection and incubation. He is also a Dean's Executive Professor in the Leavey School of Business, teaching a course in Social Entrepreneurship. In this course, graduate students provide pro-bono consultation services to outgoing GSBI? participants, helping them address gaps in the business plan while developing a tactical plan for the next stages of overall program design.
Prior to his association with SCU, Carlson spent 25 years in research, product development, and executive management in the Silicon Valley. During that time he served as CEO of two software companies (the ASK Group and deCarta), and served 10 years on the Los Gatos Town Council, including two terms as mayor. He has also served on the boards of directors of several non-profit organizations. Carlson has a BA in economics from Carleton College in Minnesota, MS (City and Regional Planning), and PhD (Computer Science) from the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill).
