Why do you want to serve as an International Ambassador at Santa Clara University?
I am very passionate about studying abroad because of my experience in Granada. I think it is very important to learn about other cultures, and there is no better way than immersing yourself in a culture. My experience was amazing, and I want to encourage as many people as possible to have an experience like mine.
What were the deciding factors in choosing your study abroad program-location?
The language was important because I wanted to go somewhere I could speak the language so I could really interact with the natives there. Also, I wanted to go somewhere beautiful where I could travel easily.
Describe a defining moment in your abroad experiences and how that experience(s) has affected you personally, intellectually, vocational, spiritually, or academically.
When I traveled to Prague, I realized how amazing it was so be able to be in a foreign country and see how they operate. I realized that although they speak a different language and have completely different customs, we are all the same. We are all connected in some form or another, and I loved being able to realize this. It also made me want to travel to more cities that I have never been to before and sparked my curiosity of the world.
What advises, recommendations would you give to prospective study abroad students? In retrospect, how would you prepare differently to maximize the study abroad experience?
I would recommend to go with a completely open mind because the cultures are different, but they are really interesting to live among. Also, to prepare I would research more about the history of my study abroad location to be able to understand the place i am living in.
