Associate Director

1. How do you define a great application?
It has to move me. It has to compel me to want to fight for a student, to declare that this is an individual who has the capacity to contribute to our community and the greater society in such a way that we would be remiss if we passed on the opportunity to associate ourselves with this individual and that is a quality which is not discernible through numbers alone. Those kinds of applications are few and far between, but there are many solid applications, as there are many solid applicants.

2. What inspires your work?
Educating the masses. I believe that everyone should be educated. And while college may not be an option, or "the" option for everyone, I do believe that everyone should be educated in whatever field, profession, or calling they are passionate about. As cliché as it sounds, knowledge is without a doubt translatable to power. And those who would profit from the ignorance of the masses know this. My daily goal is to educate and therefore empower as many individuals as I possibly can.

3. What do you do in your spare time?
I read. I write. I observe and comment on society. I enjoy the company of good friends. I try to focus my energies on enjoyable (if not necessary) enterprises, as much as possible.

4. What is your favorite song?
I can honestly say that I have so many "favorite" songs that there's no way I could choose just one. But if I had to select a song that will forever remind me of a fun, young, crucial time in my development, I'd have to go with "93 'Til Infinity" by Souls of Mischief, who just happen to be from the Bay Area.
