Office of the President

Investiture Ceremony / Conferral of the Office Seal Seal of the Office Presented

investiture
Fr. William Rewak, S.J., received a standing ovation after giving his inaugural speech on Jan. 12, 1977.

Investiture means to formally invest the person with the authority of office, including the proper symbols and clothing. This portion of the inauguration ceremony is where the chain and medallion are conferred.

Past presidents have used their inaugural address to rally attendees around a vision for the future, a set of values to which the university or larger community should aspire, and the intersection of the university's academic and Catholic mission.
