Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2010

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Dec. 15, 2010  – Kevin P. Quinn, S.J., executive director of the Ignatian Center for Jesuit Education and professor of law, has been named the 25th president of The University of Scranton.
Fr. Quinn will assume his duties as president on July 1, 2011, succeeding the Rev. Scott R. Pilarz, S.J., who begins his service as president of Marquette University in the summer of 2011.
Since 2007, Fr. Quinn has taught in the School of Law where he offers a seminar on Bioethics and the Law. Fr. Quinn also has served as the executive director of the Ignatian Center for Jesuit Education since 2006. As executive director, he has been instrumental in engaging the campus community in the charism of St. Ignatius and deepening understanding of Jesuit education. Under his direction, the Center has affirmed and strengthened Santa Clara University's Ignatian heritage through many of its programs including the Ignatian Staff Conversations, the Ignatian Faculty Forum, and community-based Arrupe placements for students.
Most notable of Fr. Quinn’s contributions to Santa Clara are the recent launch of the Sustainability Initiative at Santa Clara and the Center’s explore journal with its exceptional quality and relevance in examining Catholic identity and Ignatian character in Jesuit higher education.
Denise Carmody, professor in the Religious Studies Department and former provost, will serve as interim executive director of the Ignatian Center from January 1 to July 1, during which time a search for a new executive director will take place.  Details about a farewell reception for Fr. Quinn will be forthcoming.
