Celebrating 50 Years of Women's Athletics at SCU

Fifty years ago, with the absence of a budget, scholarship aid, uniforms, or facilities, three women’s intercollegiate athletic teams began competing for Santa Clara University. Today, the University boasts 10 women’s intercollegiate athletic teams, made up of 170 female student-athletes.

Some of the highlights over the years include:

  • 2001 Women's Soccer National Championship
  • 1991 Women's Basketball WNIT Championship
  • 2005 Women's Volleyball Final Four Appearance
  • 10 NCAA Women's Soccer Final Four Appearances
  • 48 NCAA & WNIT Post Season Appearances
  • 24 Conference Championships
  • 53 All-Americans

During this year's Bronco Legends program on Feb. 15, we will celebrate the Golden Anniversary of women's athletics at Santa Clara by honoring all of our female athletes in the SCU Hall of Fame:

This family-friendly event features a delicious buffet, beverages, face painting, performances by the spirit squads, and a ceremony honoring our chosen "Bronco Legends." Following dinner, the event moves to the Leavey Center to cheer on the men’s basketball team as they take on University of San Francisco.
