  • Book Sale Raises Money for FAVL

    Posted Thursday, June 2, 2011 at 6:29 p.m.

On May 4, the Library held its annual book sale, a popular event attended by hundreds of students, faculty, and staff. This year the Library donated half of the proceeds to Friends of African Village Libraries (FAVL), an organization founded by two SCU professors, Michael Kevane and Leslie Gray. The idea of donating the proceeds of the book sale to FAVL came from a group of Library staff who are committed to social justice and have been collaborating with FAVL on several projects. The University Librarian, Liz Salzer, was very supportive and agreed to the donation. The event, coordinated by library specialist Matthew Lipson, was a success and raised $1,047 for the organization. The money will be used to support FAVL summer reading camps in the village libraries of Burkina Faso.
