Pope Francis, in calling the Synod on the Family, once again signaled his desire to engage in open dialogue on matters of vital importance to the Catholic faithful and all people of good will. His emphasis on “the culture of encounter” and on the virtue of mercy have inspired millions to renew their faith. But the first Jesuit pope’s bold leadership has also sparked certain criticisms regarding the pace of change and the specter of divisiveness. Fathers Martin and Massaro will address the Synod on the Family, the  teachings of Francis and the prospects for substantive church reform in the unfolding papacy of Francis.
