New Directions Sabbatical Program History

The New Directions Sabbatical Program at the Jesuit School of Theology began in 1973 as the Institute for Spirituality and Worship. In its inception, the program focused on liturgical and spiritual renewal in response to ecclesial needs post-Vatican II and in keeping with the gifts of co-founders Jake Empereur, S.J. and Don Gelpi, S.J. In 2000, the program was redesigned to meet applicants' interest in a more flexible model. It was then that the program became the New Directions Sabbatical Program.

For a more detailed description of the current program and its tradition and history, you may view a digital reader of the New Directions Sabbatical Program History or Download a PDF copy of the Program History.
