  • Department description The Global Engagement Office (GEO) provides leadership, coordination, strategic planning, and resources for the internationalization of the campus. This includes, and is not limited to, coordinating study abroad initiatives for students in affiliation with other program providers, universities, and international consortiums. In addition, GEO assists international undergraduate, graduate, and law students at Santa Clara University with immigration and visa-related services and provides programs that support international students in their transition to and throughout their study at SCU.
    Qualifications A. Able to work a minimum of 10 hours/week. B. Excellent oral and written English language skills. Ability to speak Mandarin Chinese considered a plus. C. Have knowledge of, or willingness to learn, HTML/web page development and Microsoft Office (WORD, Access, Excel, and PowerPoint). D. Must be able to maintain confidentiality and to handle matters with sensitivity and tact. E. Attention to detail and demonstrates initiative. F. Excellent interpersonal communication skills and a commitment to student service. G. Flexible and able to work through change. H. Sensitive to cultural differences and able to communicate effectively with students of diverse backgrounds.
    Duties and responsibilities ESSENTIAL DUTIES: The Student Assistant provides direct administrative and clerical services to the professional staff in the Global Engagement Office. This will include, but is not limited to: managing the front desk; directing students, faculty, and staff visiting the office; responding to the office email and phone; distributing incoming office mail; and assisting with record keeping, filing, and data entry. In addition, s/he will assist with the planning and implementation of orientation sessions for students, coordinate workshop logistics, and assist with other projects as assigned. SPECIFIC DUTIES: A. Manage the GEO reception area. Greet and proactively assist visitors with questions and resources, answer the phone in a professional manner, and take messages. B. Respond to emails; send out information and reminders as needed. C. Schedule appointments for professional staff. D. Assist with students? applications and filing procedures. E. Assist with event planning and promotion, preparation of workshops, and website maintenance. F. Assist with general office clerical duties, including projects as assigned by the GEO staff.
