  • Department description The de Saisset Museum is the South Bay?s free museum of art and history. The Museum, which was founded adjacent to Mission Santa Clara de Asís in 1955, presents six to twelve temporary exhibitions every year in addition to the permanent California History installation. The de Saisset is looking for students interested in the arts, museum administration, and/or special events services to fill the Visitor Services Associate (VSA) position. VSA candidates are primarily responsible for providing security for Museum exhibitions and artifacts. VSA candidates should be willing and available to work weekday and weekend shifts during regular museum hours and also to provide security for scheduled special events, which often occur outside of posted public viewing hours. The de Saisset Museum is open Tuesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., unless otherwise advertised.
    Qualifications 1. Must have excellent customer service skills, common sense and understanding of effective and appropriate communication with a diverse community of museum visitors. 2. Must be self-directed and dependable. 3. Must be detail-oriented and attentive. 4. Must maintain professional and appropriate appearance. 5. Must retain a friendly, outgoing, and respectful disposition. 6. Must be academically driven and able to manage a work schedule amidst the rigors of scholastic responsibilities and University requirements. 7. An interest in art, history, museum administration, or special event services preferred.     Duties and responsibilities 1. Greet visitors to the museum and track museum attendance. 2. Maintain a physical presence and circulate the museum facility looking always to protect and uphold the security and safety of the museum facility, the exhibitions and artifacts, and the museum?s visitors. 3. Practice customer service by providing brief information on exhibitions when asked, assisting visitors with questions about Santa Clara University and its campus, and directing specific inquiries to appropriate professional staff members. 4. Provide security for special events scheduled outside of public viewing hours (mornings, evenings, and weekends) on an as-needed basis. 5. Assist with other basic and/or daily museum tasks as necessary.
