  • Department description The Food and Agribusiness Institute offers courses to MBA and undergraduate students, hosts events and field trips, sends students on immersion trips to developing countries, and supports undergraduate research.
    Qualifications Database skills for compiling and organizing data Demonstrated skill with excel, spreadsheets, charts, graphs Knowledge and experience with ArcGIS software required Current enrolled in, or already taken, ENVS 116 Proven skilled researcher with quantitative analysis skills Professional, organized, meticulous and detail-oriented Excellent English verbal and written communication skills Strong presentation, public speaking, and interpersonal skills Ability to work independently and efficiently within deadline
    Duties and responsibilities The Food & Agribusiness (FAI) GIS research assistant position will include the application of GIS software in mapping primary and secondary data sets. Some maps will provide spatial insights to food assistance organizations such as Second Harvest Food Bank. Others will comprise a Hunger Vulnerability Index as part of the Department of Environmental Studies and Sciences' Social Vulnerability Index project. This job requires close communication and collaboration with high-level personnel at Second Harvest Food Bank and at other related companies/non-profit organizations, as well as with the Environmental Studies and Sciences Department. The Research Assistant should be able to conduct her/himself in a manner that reflects the maturity and professionalism of working in a business environment with business professionals.
