Will I have access to my room during Winter break?

No, your ACCESS card will not work during the Winter break period. For this reason, it is imperative you take everything you will need during Winter break with you (i.e. prescription medications, passport, etc) and remember to take with you any pet fish, plants or other items that need attention & care during the break.

If you find yourself in a dire situation and do need to retrieve any items left in your room, you must contact the Housing Office at 408.554.4900 to gain access and will be billed a $75.00 administrative fee. For residents who reside within buildings that are closed during Winter break, access will only be permitted in emergency situations and at the discretion of the Housing Office.

The Housing Office will be open from 8:00AM - 5:00PM from December 15 through December 23 (excluding weekends). Santa Clara University is not responsible for the loss of, or damage to, personal property due to fire, theft, or other causes. The Housing Office recommends valuable personal property be stored off-campus during the break.

Room inspections during Winter break...

During Winter break, Housing & Residence Life staff will enter your room to ensure closing procedures were adhered to, to check smoke detectors, and to ensure window screens and room furniture are in place. Failure to complete these procedures will results in fines of $25.00 per item per residence and/or disciplinary action.

Avoid getting locked out upon your return for Winter quarter...

Remember to take your ACCESS card, PIN #, and key(s) home with you! Please store these items in a secure location at home and remember to bring them back to campus with you for your return in January! Due to the high volume of lockouts during the first 24-hours after a break, the Housing Office may fine up to $100 for lockouts during this period.

Vacancies...

If your current roommate is leaving on-campus housing at the end of the Fall quarter, or you are currently residing in a double room without a roommate, please be sure your room is prepared and ready for a new roommate to move-in for the Winter quarter prior to leaving for the break! The second bed, desk, dresser and closet should be available for your new roommate's arrival. Failure to properly prepare your room for your new roommate will result in disciplinary fines/actions.

Return All Rented Textbooks...

Don't forget to return all rented textbooks to the Bronco Corner Bookstore prior to your departure from campus for Winter Break!

Bikes...

If you are leaving your bike on-campus during Winter break, it is recommended that you store it within your room.
