Length of SCU Employment: In this role: 5+ months; however, this is my 10th year at SCU (I worked in Athletics from ’91 to ’99)
Born & Lived: Born in Indianapolis, IN; moved to Bay Area when I was 3
Early Life: Grew up in Cupertino & Fremont; went to high school at Mission San Jose in Fremont and college at Butler University in Indianapolis
Family: wife Judy (age withheld); kids Lucy (9) & Brady (6)
Most Meaningful Achievement:
~ Personal: convincing my wife that I was marriage material, which led to two great kids (and I hope to help them have meaningful achievements)
~ Professional: successfully generating revenue in the sports & media & collegiate industries for 20+ years
~ Community: coaching my son’s Little League team; raising money and awareness for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society through Team in Training.
Why I came to SCU: it’s a magical place with great people and great potential; if we as a campus community can set aside our issues/egos and be more selfless and work together better, there is no limit to what this great university can achieve!
Previous Employer: San Francisco 49ers (worked there for 6 years)
In 5 years I Plan to Be: 5 years older. That and hopefully I’m not going crazy with a teenage daughter. I’d also like to be successfully building relationships, driving revenue and leading a team of people to succeed.
Favorite Books/Series: Fiction – Harlan Coben, Clive Cussler; Business – I’m re-reading Dale Carnegie books right now; other Non-Fiction – I enjoy biographies of a successful people in a variety of industries.
In My Spare Time: I enjoy coaching my son’s Little League team, running (support my Team in Training effort here: http://pages.teamintraining.org/sf/AveGiant12/wmchargue ) and golf (wish I had more time for this!) Other than my kids’ activities, other passions/interests are Butler Basketball, the San Jose Sharks, Starbucks, traveling, eating out at restaurants, the NFL, Modern Family, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Mad Men. And I enjoy following all Bronco athletic teams.
