Bootstrapping the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship

In addition, he is modeling an entrepreneurial venture within the CIE, complete with a bootstrap budget and student executives in the roles of chief executive officer, chief operating officer, chief financial officer, vice president of finance, and vice president of operations. His aim is “to give them the responsibility, give them the ownership, but also provide the guidance that I learned from going through that process as a young entrepreneur, going through the ups and downs and the different iterations of a business,” he says.

Through running the CIE, the students gain hands-on entrepreneurial experience. “The idea is ‘for students, by students,’ but the Center will serve the entire Santa Clara community,” Holmes elaborates.

Current goals for the CIE include coordinating the interdisciplinary academic curriculum, providing a network hub for the Santa Clara community of entrepreneurs, and building a portfolio of Bronco ventures.
