Join Sharon Merritt (English) as we play and experiment with Nearpod, an app for the synchronized use of iPads and mobile phones, which facilitates real-time interactive presentations and activities. Bring your phones or iPads (and feel free to download the free Nearpod app before CAFE3), or pick up an iPad at the session so you can participate fully.

Convocation for the 2012-2013 academic year will be held on Tuesday, September 11, at 4:00 p.m. in the Mission Church. All faculty and staff are invited and encouraged to attend the convocation to launch the new academic year.

Pedagogy in Perspective: Cultivating a Growth Mindset in Our Classrooms

Come hear faculty panelists Sharon Merritt (English), Stephen Carroll (English), and Denise Krane (English) discuss how they use the work of Stanford psychologist Carol Dweck (Mindset: The New Psychology of Success) in their teaching. Dweck argues that a fixed mindset presumes talent alone determines academic success and that talent is a fixed trait; a growth mindset, on the other hand, emphasizes resilience, dedication and hard work--stuff we can all muster in the right circumstances.
