TikTok Videos Show What It’s Like Living With Dementia, and Raise Privacy Questions

Dementia-related hashtags account for approximately 2.8 billion views on TikTok, and posts related to medical conditions and disorders on the site are an increasing trend. Often caregivers, typically family members, are posting videos of loved ones with dementia in an effort to find support, educate and raise awareness of the condition, but there are ethical considerations to these actions.

“Are we making people more vulnerable even with the best intentions?” asks Irina Raicu, director of the Internet Ethics Program at the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics at Santa Clara University.
