Advisory Board

Comprised of distinguished members of the off-campus community, the Advisory Board provides ideas and counsel from an independent perspective, assists in planning and fundraising, and enhances communication between the Center and its external constituencies.

  • Cathy Benko

    Experienced Corporate Board Member, Best-Selling Author and Patent Holder

    Cathy Benko is a board member for Nike, Inc., and the former Vice Chairman and Managing Principal of DeLoitte LLP.

  • Kristi Bowers

    Co-Founder and CEO of Grape.ag

    Kristi Bowers is a co-founder and CEO of Grape.ag; technology startup advisor; manager of Kings Mountain Vineyards; and a Trustee for Santa Clara University.

  • Jim Cowie

    Fellow - Stanford Distinguished Careers Institute

    Jim Cowie is a Fellow at Stanford University's Distinguished Careers Institute. Previously, he served as Chief Legal Officer at Lawrence J. Ellison Institute for Transformative Medicine, and as Senior VP and General Counsel at Cadence Design Systems. He is a U.S. Navy veteran.

  • Margaret M. Bradshaw

    Executive Vice President (retired), Bridge Bank

    Peggy Bradshaw retired as executive vice president and chief banking officer at Bridge Bank in September 2015. Her professional experience includes more than 20 years with Comerica Bank, and as a member and chair of the Board of Regents of Santa Clara University.

  • Dan Cooperman

    Retired General Counsel, Apple and Oracle

    Dan Cooperman is the former senior vice president and general counsel of Oracle Corporation (1997-2007) under Larry Ellison and senior vice president and general counsel of Apple Inc. (2007-2009) under Steve Jobs. Following his retirement from Apple, Dan served as senior counsel at DLA Piper LLP, a global law firm, and taught a course entitled, “The Role of the Modern General Counsel” at Stanford Law and Business Schools.

  • Anjali Joshi

    Board Member, Advisor, Executive in Residence at INSEAD

    Anjali Joshi is a senior engineering and product management executive who has worked at Google, Covad and AT&T Bell Labs. She currently serves on the boards of Lattice Semiconductor, Alteryx, and Loconav. Previously she was on the boards of McClatchy, MobileIron, and Iteris.

  • Tom Kelly

    Venture Consultant, Forgepoint Capital

    Thomas Kelly ’74 is a Venture Consultant at Forgepoint Capital, former President and CEO of various tech companies including IDX, AccelOps, Moxie Software Epicor, and Blaze Software.

  • Katharine A. Martin

    Chair and Partner, Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati

    Katharine (Katie) Martin is chair of the board of directors and a partner at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati. She practices corporate and securities law at their Palo Alto office, and previously served as a member of the Policy Committee and as the leader of the firm's business law department.

  • Denise Melone

    Managing Director, Havas San Francisco

    Denise Melone graduated from Santa Clara University in 2006 with a BSC in Marketing. She has worked in healthcare advertising for over 15 years, with experience in both client management and strategic development across the board in multiple disease areas in both the patient and healthcare provider spaces.

  • Noel Perry

    Businessman, Philanthropist, and Founder of Next 10

    Noel Perry is a businessman, philanthropist, and the founder of Next 10, a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that educates and empowers Californians to improve the state’s future.

  • Risë Pichon

    California Superior Court judge of the County of Santa Clara (Ret.)

    Judge Risë Jones Pichon served as a Judge of the Superior Court and Municipal Court of the County of Santa Clara for 35 years and was elected Presiding Judge of both Courts. Judge Pichon is now a panelist with JAMS (Judicial Arbitration and Mediation Services). She earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and a Juris Doctor from Santa Clara University in 1973 and 1976 and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree in 2020.

  • Roey Rahmil

    Partner, Shartsis Friese LLP

  • Ann M. Ravel

    Director, Digital Deception Project, MapLight

    Ann M. Ravel is director, Digital Deception Project at MapLight, and a lecturer and adjunct professor at the University of California, Berkeley – School of Law. Nominated to the Federal Election Commission by President Barack Obama on June 21, 2013 and appointed by unanimous consent of the United States Senate. She served as Chair of the Commission for 2015 and Vice Chair for 2014 before leaving in 2017.

  • Nancy W. Reynolds

    Retired Principal, Investcorp

    Nancy W. Reynolds retired as a Principal in Investcorp’s Technology Investment Group where she served as the CFO and Investor Relations Coordinator. She also serves on the Kent Place Board of Trustees and acts as the Board Liaison to the Ethics Institute at Kent Place School (“EIKPS”), a first-of-its-kind institute at the primary and secondary school level. Nancy has served on EIKPS’s Strategic Planning Committee and has developed a strong interest in advancing the process and practice of ethical decision-making.

  • John B. Shoven

    Charles R. Schwab Professor of Economics - Emeritus at Stanford University

    John B. Shoven is the former Trione Director of the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research and the Charles R. Schwab Professor of Economics - Emeritus at Stanford. He is also a Research Associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research. He specializes in public finance and corporate finance and has published on Social Security, health economics, corporate and personal taxation, mutual funds, pension plans, economic demography and applied general equilibrium economics. He is Chairman of the Board of Cadence Design Systems and Lead Independent Director of Exponent.

  • Martin J. Skrip

    Retired KPMG LLP Senior Corporate Tax Partner

    Marty is a retired KPMG LLP senior corporate tax partner, having served multinational companies in the Bay Area and Silicon Valley. He also served as an accounting firm executive at two other international accounting firms. Marty has extensive Board experience in higher education.

  • Joyce Ann Viloria, MD

    Internal Medicine, Primary Care Physician, Permanente Medical Group

    Joyce Viloria is a primary care physician at Kaiser Santa Clara, joining in 2012. Her medical interests include the management of chronic medical conditions, healthy nutrition, and preventive medicine.

  • Charmaine Warmenhoven

    Community Volunteer

    Charmaine Warmenhoven received a B.A. in Psychology from Princeton University and an M.A. in Special Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. Prior to her philanthropic and community volunteer work, she had a 25-year career as a teacher and administrator in Special Education and Disability Ministry.

Emeritus Members

  • A.C. "Mike" Markkula Jr.

    Owner, A.C.M. Investments

    A. C. "Mike" Markkula, Jr. has been associated with Santa Clara University in various capacities since 1984, and was Chairman of the Board of Trustees from 2003-2009. Mr. Markkula and his wife Linda, provided initial funding for the Center for Applied Ethics and served as Chairman of the Board of Advisors and a member of the steering committee. The University awarded him an honorary Doctor of Public Service degree in 1992.

  • William Terry

    Retired Executive Vice President, Hewlett-Packard Company

    Prior to retirement in November 1993, William E. (Bill) Terry was Executive Vice President of the Measurement Systems Sector and a Director of the Hewlett-Packard Company, located in Palo Alto, California.
