Chairman, Sutter Health
Richard Levy is chair of the Sutter Health Board, a member of the Finance and Planning Committee, and a board member of the Sutter Health Peninsula Coastal Region. He is also the non-executive chairman of the board and former CEO of Varian Medical Systems. This leading Silicon Valley-based company provides high-energy radiation equipment, hardware and software for treating cancer, as well as X-ray tubes for diagnostic radiology.
He is currently Chair of the Advisory Board of the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics at Santa Clara University. Dr. Levy has served as a board member for the United Way Silicon Valley since 2002, including chairing the board from 2008 to 2009. He is an active founding member of the Advisory Committee of the Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice and is an active participant in summits for the Center for Corporate Innovation, Inc. (CCI), with a focus on improving the national health care system.
He has also served as board chair of the American Electronics Association and board member of the Diagnostic Imaging and Therapy Systems Division of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association.
Dr. Levy holds a bachelor's degree from Dartmouth College and a doctorate in nuclear chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley.
