Micromouse 2007 Micromouse is a competition between various regional schools where robots navigate, solve, and execute the fastest path in a 16x16 maze. Each mouse must find its way from the bottom left corner of the maze to the center knowing nothing about the location of walls within the maze prior to the start. Micromouse has a strong following within the UK and Asia with very large events every year. Santa Clara University competed for the first time in the IEEE Region 6 competition last year. A team of about 8 Electrical and Computer Engineers took on the challenge with very little previous experience in building robots and the interesting problems that we all faced for the first time. Every facet of the building process had to be discovered and experimented with. While we did not rank as high as we would have all liked in the competition, the project was a remarkable success in learning about the associated topics. Work on the 2007 mouse is to start as soon as possible, details will be announced at an upcoming IEEE meeting. We are very interested in adding new people to the team, if you are interested in a crash course in robotic design or have some experience to bring to the team, please attend the IEEE meetings to get involved! |
