Solar Technology Powers U.S. Job Growth

Solar industry has been on a steady growth path since 2000, despite the recent recession. Driving the growth trend is a host of California statewide solar initiatives and incentives, as well as the unprecedented federal funding to speed up the R&D and deployment.

In its December 2009 research report on California's green jobs, Next10, a research organization in San Francisco, reported that "between 1995-2008, green businesses increased 45%, green jobs grew 36% while total jobs in the state grew only 13%." From 1995-2008, Energy Generation employment expanded 61% by nearly 10,000 jobs. Solar makes up the largest portion, and strongest growth (63%), according to Next10. The report highlighted the finding that California's green job growth leader is the San Francisco Bay Area where energy generation grew by 20%, with the high concentration in solar.
