2014 School of Engineering Faculty Awards

Congratulations to the following 2013-14 SCU School of Engineering Faculty Award Winners!

Researcher of the Year Award: Hohyun Lee, Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering

Hohyun LeeHohyun's work to improve the efficiency of sustainable energy systems is perfectly aligned with the University's goal of advancing technological innovation in the service of humanity. With six journal papers and two conference papers, appearing in highly rated journals such as the Journal of Applied Physics, and Energy, his prolific publishing and active solicitation of external collaborators, when combined with his external funding,  provided outstanding opportunities for students involved with his projects and extended the reach of his work well beyond Santa Clara University's borders.

Award for Teaching Excellence: Aleksandar Zecevic, Professor Electrical Engineering

Zecevic Students who nominated Alex offered praise for both his graduate and undergraduate teaching, citing his brilliance and understanding of the subject matter, sensitivity to students grasp of the material, presentation of practical applications, and encouragement of independent thinking. Technical and inspirational, his teaching enables students to use math and science as tools to understand and appreciate the world.

Adjunct Lecturer of the Year: Peter Woytowitz, Mechanical Engineering

WoytowitzA number of elements factored into this decision of selecting Peter as the Adjunct Lecturer of the Year:  Peter's longstanding contribution to the intellectual welfare and operating structure of our programs in mechanical and civil engineering, the high evaluation scores he consistently receives from students who value his teaching style and explanation of fundamental concepts and derivations, and Peter's leadership (for more than a decade) as chair of the Mechanical Engineering Industrial Advisory Board.

Gerald E. Markle Award: Robert Kleinhenz, Applied Mathematics

Robert KleinhenzThe Gerald E. Markle Award recognizes excellence in the teaching of engineering and applied mathematics. Students of Dr. Gerry Markle, the founding chair of the Department of Applied Mathematics at Santa Clara University, have established this award to honor his memory by recognizing excellent teaching. Robert has been praised for his outstanding work with students, who cite the interesting assignments he creates at the graduate level, and the data-rich undergraduate-level group projects that reinforce concepts and techniques learned in his classes.
