This program is primarily designed for individuals who possess a teaching credential and desire a Master's degree that will allow them to develop expertise in areas of professional interest. The program requires a total of 45 quarter units. This includes 12 units of required core courses, a concentration area developed under advisement from 12-27 units, 3-6 units of courses for the culminative experience and electives chosen under advisement. Students interested in mathematics, science, environmental education, or technology are encouraged to consider the recently created STEEM emphasis.

Required Courses (12 Units)

  • EDUC 391-Ethics camp, or approved alternative (3 units)
  • EDUC 392-Study of Teaching (3 units)
  • EDUC 393-Curriculum/Program Development (3 units)
  • EDUC 490-Research Methods (3 units)

Concentration Area (12-27 Units)

  • Chosen under advisement from Instructional Technology, Reading, Special Education, Educational Administration or Curriculum and Instruction. A minimum of 12 quarter hours in one emphasis is required.

Project/Culminating Experience (3-6 Units)

  • Note: Culminating experience option include: (A) Thesis (491, 499), (B) Curriculum Project (254, 310), (C) Grant Proposal, (D) Theoretical Commentary (491 or 254 plus 499 or 310), Publishable Paper submitted to a journal (491 plus additional coursework as needed).

Electives

  • Requires approval of advisor.
