Description
This Course builds upon the knowledge, skills, and abilities acquired during a professional teacher preparation program for the delivery of comprehensive support for students' physical, cognitive, emotional and social well-being. Through this course students will develop a deeper understanding of teh relationship between student health and student learning. At the end of this course students will have achieved the following outcomes:
- Developed an understanding of how to promote personal, classroom, and school safety through appropriate prevention and intervention strategies,
- Analyzed health education curriculum materials for effectiveness and appropriateness,
- Leaned how to access local and community resources to support student health,
- Examined the components of a comprehensive school health program, and developed an understanding of the teacher's role in this program,
- Researched the educational codes and laws at local, state, and federal levels that impact health education, including mandated reporting requirements,
- Applied appropriate instructional content and methodologies from adopted health curriculum to promote student health,
- Become familiar with major state and federal laws related to student health and safety, including reporting requirements and parents' rights,
- Satisfied all criteria for the Health Education requirement of the California 2042 Clear teaching credential.
