Course Description:
Helping professionals regularly engage in work that can be demanding, challenging, and emotionally taxing. Sustaining the personal self to be deeply present to clients is an ongoing challenge. To work in a competent and ethical manner, clinicians need to acquire and regularly practice self-care and wellness strategies. A personal self-care program is necessary to prevent distress, burnout, and impairment, and to maintain a level of psychological and physical well-being. Self-care is not an indulgence; it is a foundational ethical issue for psychotherapists.
This workshop will use brief lectures, experiential exercises, meditation and other strategies to help students.
