About

Vision

Our vision imagines a region and a world in which everyone has access to an inspiring education and is provided the psychological tools and support needed to propel them toward flourishing lives of meaning, purpose and connection.

We see ourselves as a strong community partner that serves this vision in our region.

Mission

To embody that vision, our mission is to prepare outstanding therapists, educators, and advocates, grounded in the Jesuit values of a deep respect for all and a focus on social justice. Our mission is to develop professionals who will serve and positively transform schools, communities, and the greater society through their work.

The Latinx Research Center (LRC) builds on a long history of expertise on issues of Latinx education and well-being across Santa Clara University’s School of Education and Counseling Psychology. Our goals are to demonstrate and deepen our ongoing commitment to serve the Latinx communities of Silicon Valley, California, and the United States. Furthermore, our mission is to develop LRC into an intellectual “hub” for faculty and students in the School of Education and Counseling Psychology as well as to other schools and colleges at Santa Clara University. Although the explicit focus in the name of the center will be education, we mean education in its broadest sense, and with the ultimate eye of supporting human flourishing and well-being. Lastly, we aim to bring faculty and students as well as our external partners together to build a network sharing common research interests and a shared commitment to ensuring the well-being of the Latinx community in our region, across California, and beyond.

Guided by Santa Clara University’s Jesuit foundations and the School of Education and Counseling Psychology’s guiding principles, Excellence in Catholic Education and Leadership (ExCEL) supports Catholic school educators through a program committed to developing teachers pedagogically, spiritually, and communally; and working for social justice through educational equity. Through generous support of the Sobrato Foundation, ExCEL members work as teachers for TK-12 Catholic schools in the Diocese of San Jose, while also living in community with one another and taking coursework at Santa Clara towards earning a state teaching credential and Master of Arts in Teaching.
