What is it? The Magis Leadership Retreat presents sophomore and junior student leaders with opportunities to grow through a deeper understanding of self, their personal story, and how that story impacts the community around them. Magis, which means “more” in Latin, captures the purpose of this retreat in multiple ways. Participants will gain a greater understanding of empowerment as a foundation of leadership. They will be challenged to utilize their story as a tool which shapes their understanding and shapes them as a leader. The more participants understand their stories the more self-empowered they become, thus allowing them to empower others to work together toward a “greater good”.
Through a stronger understanding of leadership as a concept student leaders will be better equipped to support their peers (i.e., club members, staff members, residents, incoming students, peers) as well as take greater ownership of their role within the Santa Clara community. Retreat Facilitators Four faculty/staff members and four senior student leaders from across campus will serve as facilitators for the weekend experience. The retreat will also be guided by staff from the Center for Student Leadership.
When is it? Where is it? Who can participate? Magis is for sophomore and junior student leaders. Twenty students currently involved in leadership as well as those interested in taking on leadership roles will be accepted to attend the retreat. How do I get involved? You will need to Apply to become a participant. Applications are due no later than 5PM on Wednesday, January 14, 2009 in the Center for Student Leadership, Benson One. |
