  • iconWhat is the scuID Leadership Retreat?

The scuID Leadership Retreat is a brand new leadership opportunity for incoming freshman students. Using a combination of activities, large and small group discussions, storytelling, and a high ropes course, participants will delve into leadership in a highly interactive environment. With the Social Change Model of Leadership as the foundation of the retreat, participants will start with focusing on their own personal values and the role they play in leadership. After exploring values, the retreat will shift to focus on how leaders at Santa Clara are driven by a common purpose that allows leadership to be dynamic through collaboration. In addition, students will have an opportunity to dive into the difficult parts of leadership – when things go wrong – and work on building skills to help in these challenging situations.

While this retreat will help prepare participants as leaders, it will not directly plug them into leadership opportunities. Students will need to practice the skills learned to discover their own personal niche and community in which they will be able to personally thrive based on their own skills and interests. Santa Clara is a diverse community that provides great opportunities for all types of leaders to find their community on campus.

  • iconWho can participate?

The retreat is open to incoming freshman students. Applications will be coordinated through New Student Programs and will be available after Summer Preview Session 6. There are 36 spots available, but a waiting list will also be maintained. No previous leadership experience needed. We're looking for a variety of students from brand new to leadership to students with extensive experience.

  • iconWhat can I expect during the retreat?

Our goal is to use different styles of learning throughout the retreat, using large group activities and discussions, small group discussions and reflections, and both a low and high ropes course. Plan on getting to know a great group of your fellow incoming Broncos and connecting with the Center for Student Leadership (CSL) early in your SCU career.
