Julia Claire Landry

Director of Retreat Ministry

Hello!  I'm the Campus Minister for Retreats. I return to the team this year with lots of enthusiasm and gratitude for the chance to be part of the Santa Clara community.

I grew up on the Mississippi Gulf Coast in the small town of D'Iberville. My parents (Bob & Sarah), sister (Lucy), and family dog (Bijou), as well as the rest of my friends and family on the Gulf Coast have a special place in my heart from here on the West Coast.

I've always loved being involved in ministry, so I studied Theology at Spring Hill College, a Jesuit school in Mobile, Alabama. (Go Badgers!) After college, I worked for a year as an Americorps intern in Cincinnati, OH, facilitating retreats for teenagers at the Milford Spiritual Center. Before coming to SCU, I attended the Jesuit School of Theology (then "at Berkeley") and received a Master of Divinity.

Retreats have been woven into the fabric of my faith life from a young age. I first made a Search retreat in the diocese of Biloxi as a high school student, and loved leading retreats on my high school campus ministry team. At Spring Hill, the Awakening retreat ("SHAPe") became my passion, though I've had the chance to experience Busy Person's retreat and Ignatian silent and directed retreats as well. I enjoy developing the retreat offerings for the Santa Clara community so that whether you're looking for an interactive experience, or a reflective, personal one -- or something totally different -- you can find what you seek here.

Besides retreats, two experiences stick out as having profoundly shaped me as a human and as a minister: prison ministry in Dublin, CA, and teaching English for a summer in Vietnam.

I am excited about exploring the religious and spiritual diversity at Santa Clara and making sure that people pursuing all spiritual paths find voice and support. Feel free to stop by my office to chat about what's on your mind. Or you can find me hanging out with my dog, Annie, in Sanfilippo Hall where I am a Resident Minister in the Xavier RLC.
