Ethics Camp Schedule

Success in the K-12 classroom is not only teaching math, language, history, and science. Teachers supplement - sometimes replace - family and community in developing individuals truly prepared to live and work in our complex, changing, and demanding world. Today, life requires building relationships with family, friends, co-workers and even complete strangers. We find that the most successful relationships are based on trust and consistent ethical behavior, where ethics becomes the language of the relationship.

Developing the complete person requires both academic instruction and character education. As a mentor, counselor, role model, and friend, you have the challenge of teaching your students to do the right thing.

Character education can help you perform this ever-expanding and demanding role.

ETHICS CAMP (view schedule, register)is a character education experience designed to build your personal understanding of ethics, values, and virtuous behavior into a comprehensive curriculum for your students and your school. During the four-day program, you will learn how to teach ethics, be an effective role model, facilitate character development, and incorporate ethical education into your core curriculum.

Under the guidance of educators and scholars from Santa Clara University, you will discuss moral reflection, moral development, character, professional ethics, and ethical decision making with educators and administrators from your district and from around the state. Together you will learn to teach your students how to cope with the realities of life that get in the way of ethical behavior.

At the Markkula Ethics Center's ETHICS CAMP you will explore and understand...
1. the relationship among thoughts, values, and behavior
2. the application of ethical decision making in everyday life
3. using ethical decision making frameworks to complement your teaching style
4. the development of prosocial and antisocial behavior in young people
5. the relationship between ethical standards and behavior choices
6. how school and teachers affect students' behavior
7. how to assist students in defining personal and social ethics
8. how to better define and articulate ideas, concepts, and thoughts that include ethical standards, as well as a full dose of reality
9. how to bring workshop concepts into your classroom and curriculum

...all in a fun, interactive, productive learning environment.
