Mons. Romero Program

Salvadoran Scholarship Students

becarios1The Romero Program, which is funded and sponsored by Casa de la Solidaridad, supports Salvadoran scholarship students (becarios) in their pursuit of higher education. Specifically, the Romero Program provides room & board as well as a formation program for 30 becarios most of who come from very poor, rural communities. Without the assistance of the Romero Program, these students would not be able to study at the university level. The program is directed by former becarios.

U.S. students live in community with becarios during the semester. Early each semester, students visit the becarios' families so they get a good understanding of the context from which they come.

Overall, the Romero program is a fantastic contribution to Salvadoran society and the presence of the becarios in the lives of Casa students makes for a dynamic learning / living.
