What Young Scholars Do

The Young Scholars Program challenges students to grow personally and academically within a supportive community of students, faculty and staff.  The program has two key components:

Instead of thinking and talking about what might happen in college, Young Scholars directly experience it by taking college courses in Santa Clara’s summer session alongside college students. In consultation with the program director, each Young Scholar enrolls in one or two lower-division university courses from Session 1 of Santa Clara’s summer program and earns college credit.

These courses are typically part of the core curriculum at most universities. Young Scholars learn how to manage the workload and the responsibilities of college-level study.  During the program, Young Scholars have access to the program director and college advisors who assist them in resolving problems or responding to other questions.

2015 Courses

The Young Scholars Program’s small size allows Young Scholars to interact with students from many schools by sharing courses and attending program events. On Orientation Day, students receive a tour of campus, the student body card (ACCESS card), books, and lunch with summer session staff. ACCESS cards allow group meals or exercise breaks during the program.

Transportation & Housing

Transportation and campus housing are not available for Young Scholars.

From a Parent of a Young Scholar

"The Young Scholars program was a great experience for my son due to the small class size and highly qualified and motivated teaching staff. My son was able to get plenty of one-on-one time with the teacher before and after class to get his questions answered."
