Gary Macy, Ph.D.John Nobili, S.J. Professor, Department ChairDr. Macy was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where he developed a love for good food, good beer, good wine and good conversation. An English literature major at Marquette University in Milwaukee who couldn't decide if he wanted to study medieval literature, philosophy, or history realized that he could do all three if he majored in theology. After graduating with an undergraduate and a master's degrees from Marquette, he traveled to Cambridge University where he earned a doctoral degree in historical theology (and developed a taste for very dry sherry). For the next twenty-nine years, Dr. Macy taught courses on the medieval church and on Christian ritual at the University of San Diego. Here he met, fell in love with, and married his wife, Saralynn Ferrara. Academic Appointments
