Child Studies Emphasis

Students who are drawn toward working with children, youth and families but who are not necessarily headed towards K‐12 careers can choose the Child Studies Emphasis. Students in this program will gain much of the educational background that our Pre‐Teaching students benefit from, while also being exposed to an array of social justice‐oriented, community‐based topics related to children, families and communities. This emphasis provides a course work that addresses the factors that underlie child development and provides a foundation for careers in therapy, social work, child care, youth center management, counseling, mediation and family law, political advocacy, and careers in the non‐profit sector.
