Dr. Bacon used support from a Center for Science and Technology Studies grant for frugal innovation to bring Ian to Nicaragua. Ian worked with a local fair trade cooperative and an international non-profit organization to set-up a pilot project using cell phones to monitor transactions among several community-based grain and seed banks. The goals are to reduce seasonal hunger, empower farmers and conserve biodiversity. Upon his return from Nicaragua, NBC Bay Area interviewed Ian about his experience. Check out the video of the NBC interview.
