CyPhi
The mission of the CyPhi RLC is to increase student awareness about local and global environmental issues and to help students develop habits of living and decision-making that are more environmentally sustainable. CyPhi is rooted in a commitment to a sustainable future where, generation after generation, a healthy environment sustains healthy lives for all people. Issues of justice and equity are central to discussions of sustainability: the key question is how to improve the situation of people around the world without degrading the environment upon which we and future generations will depend. Through courses, activities, and discussions, CyPhi community members apply knowledge and skills to formulate, discover, and communicate an understanding of a sustainable future and to develop sustainable ways of living—in the residence hall and beyond.
CyPhi welcomes students from all majors. Cypress courses fulfill University Core Curriculum requirements and provide a strong foundation for a major or minor in Environmental Studies. Classes include world geography, English, biology, chemistry, calculus, and an RLC course on sustainability. Learn more about the CyPhi RLC >>
SLURP
The Sustainable Living Undergraduate Research Project (SLURP) is an innovative way sustainability is promoted into the CyPhi Residential Learning Community in Swig Residence Hall. During the course of the year, students living on the 5th floor of Swig engage in intensive research and present their findings at the annual ESI Successfest each Spring. Academic credits are awarded to students who successfully complete their research projects in ENVS 95 & ENVS 195. Learn more about past SLURP projects >>
