Scott LaBarge

Associate Professor

Scott LaBarge is an Associate Professor with a joint appointment between Philosophy and Classics.  He received his B.A. in Philosophy and Classics from the University of Delaware in 1994, and then did his graduate work at the University of Arizona, receiving an M.A. in Classics and a Ph.D. in Philosophy, both in 2000.  He received the Arnold L. and Lois S. Graves Award in 2004 in recognition of his accomplishments in the classroom, and was recognized with the Brutocao Award for Teaching Excellence at SCU in 2012.  He has served as Faculty Director for the Alpha Residential Learning Community since 2006 (where, among other things, he helps put on a recreation of the Roman Saturnalia festival every year), and was co-founder and has served as moderator for Café Socrates, a weekly philosophy discussion group, since it began in 2001.  He specializes in ancient Greek and Roman philosophy, but also teaches courses more generally on the subject of classical culture.  He lives on campus with his wife Jennifer, his son and daughter, and two cats.
