 CEPI Turns 25!

Friday, Mar. 21, 2014

Twenty-five years ago, Microsoft released the first Office Suite, Julia Roberts played Shelby Eatenton Latcherie in Steel Magnolias, and the Certified Equity Professional Institute (CEPI) was founded at Santa Clara University. The Institute was born out of the need to create a professional body of knowledge for those involved in equity compensation. Because no formal education in this field existed before 1989, CEPI forged its own path and has served as the industry’s educational standard.

A Certified Equity Professional (CEP), put simply, is an experienced stock plan professional. Think of it this way, when handing your equity over to professionals to manage, you want to make sure they know what they’re doing. CEPI provides an avenue for working professionals to solidify their knowledge and capabilities, allowing them to earn the trust of their clients.

Housed in the Business School’s Executive Development Center (EDC), CEPI’s mission to establish, promote, and provide certification and continuing education has benefited thousands. Over 1,400 people have completed the program.

“Twenty-five years ago, SCU had the foresight to see this would be something unique,” said CEPI Director Dee Crosby. “And it has been!”

On March 25th, the 10th annual CEP Symposium will be held on campus. Labeled the “best 1-day event in Equity Compensation,” over 400 attendees are expected from across the country. At this event, the CEPI will celebrate its 25th anniversary, and raise a toast to another successful twenty-five years.
