James L. Hall
Associate Professor of Management
James Hall received his BA from Bates College and his MBA from Rutgers University. He then worked as an auditor for Arthur Andersen & Co. before becoming a pre-doctoral teaching associate at the University of Washington. He earned his PhD there in 1971 and has taught at Santa Clara ever since. He has served as President of the Faculty Senate and as Co-Director of the Leadership Studies Certificate Program.
Dr. Hall currently teaches courses in organizational behavior. Throughout his teaching career at Santa Clara, he has won the Dean’s Award for Teaching Innovation, the President’s Award for Outstanding Achievement in Teaching, Research and Service, and Most Outstanding Business Professor Award.
His major research interests are performance-appraisal systems, managerial communications, and managing an aging work force. Two of his most prominent works are: a NASA study to examine employee motivation, and a study of performance appraisal systems in high technology companies.
